"One of the greatest things in human life is the ability to make plans. Even if they never come true - the joy of anticipation is irrevocably yours. That way one can live many more than just one life."

Wait...I actaully have to LEAVE my babies? Hmmmmm....

Today is a wonderful day.
Today I met my granddaughter for the second time. The first time I saw her she was nothing but a bundle of beating-heart and limb buds. Today I saw her little face and watched her wave her arms and legs at us. Modern ultrasound technology is just an amazing gift.

For some odd reason I have felt connected to this baby from the day I heard David and Kathy were expecting. I just knew it was a girl. I never really wondered; I just knew. From the start, I've had this funny sense of already knowing this one. I have this idea of who she is and what she will be like. I can't wait to hold her in my arms and watch her grow and see if all my imaginings come true. I think we're going to be special friends.

Now, I realize this is all a bit presumptuous and I may be totally out-to-lunch. This is the kind of "woman's intuition," overly sentimental and romantic claim that I never make and usually scoff at, so I won't be surprised if she's nothing like I think. But, she'll still be my special girl just because of this feeling I have of knowing her from the minute I knew she existed.
Today's happy events makes me realize, if I go to Ireland, I have to leave my girl.....

....and this sweet boy...
for 18 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wait a minute.

I've NEVER been away for my babies for more than about a week. Can I really do this???? Eeeek!

Deep breath.

Maybe if I bring them home lots of presents, it'll be okay.

I think I'll go cry now.

  1. Just prepare yourself for how big they'll get while your gone and it will help :)

  2. Oh, I forgot to post Congratulations!! How fun to have another girl!!!

  3. Aaaaahhhh!!! You're not helping! They'll probably be HUGE after 3 weeks. Especially Christian :( Sheesh.

    oh, thanks :)

  4. I totally thought it was a girl, too! :-)
It was fun to see the video of your moment of vindication. ;-)

  5. I suppose I was a little too gloating, I was just so pleased to find my little "sense" of this baby confirmed. I DO love to be right, but this time it was more just joy that she really is who I thought she was. :) Funny how silly babies can make a completely normal human being. :)

  6. "The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page." St. Augustine
This may not help with the emotional surge, but I know how much you love to read:-) and think of all the cool Grandma stories you'll acquire of this trip to tell those babies when they get bigger!
    Love you and Happy Birthday!

  7. Thanks, Ruth! You certainly made this a wonderful birthday :). I'm certainly going to LOVE every minute of this trip. Travel is in my top shelf of special treats to be savored and remembered forever. Next to babies, I can hardly think of anything I'd rather have than a chance to see new places. I feel like this trip is going to be so amazing that even if I never get to travel again, it'll be okay, because we got to do this Ireland trip. I know my babies can live without me for a few days. I was just having one of those emotional, be goofy over my babies days. :)

    Nice quote. Very me! :)

    Love you!
