"One of the greatest things in human life is the ability to make plans. Even if they never come true - the joy of anticipation is irrevocably yours. That way one can live many more than just one life."

In which we have a 10 hour shopping marathon

As the trip planning progresses, the list of things we need to buy for this 18 day adventure has been growing. Last Saturday was one of those rare occurrence in Hayes life in which he had NO obligations or plans and we decided to take full advantage of the situation. So, along with my sister Jessica who was in town for her last spring break as a college student (yay!), Doug and I sallied forth at 8:30am Saturday morning for a vacation shopping extravaganza.

First stop - Mother's Bistro

Simply the best breakfast experience we've discovered in Portland. Word to the wise - make reservations. Considering we planned to drag Jessica from one end of the greater Portland area to the other doing our shopping, we decided she deserved a yummy breakfast.

Duly fueled up and ready to go, our next stop - Woodburn Outlet Mall. We proceeded to spend plenty of money and several hours buying clothes for me, birthday gifts for our boys and various other sundries on our To-Do list. LOVE my new coat from Eddie Bauer. :)

Then it was on to...
Costco - luggage
Shoe Mill - something to walk in for 8 hours a day for 18 days
Clackamas Town Center - more shoes, gifts, etc, etc, etc.

I will never go to the Shoe Mill at Clackamas Promenade again - SO rude! We clearly were too stupid to know what we should wear on our feet.

However, the salesman at The Walking Company more than made up for it. After about 30 pairs of shoes between the two of us, he succeeded in finding shoe nirvana for my husband's flat feet. I am very proud of Doug - he bought himself the most expensive pair of shoes he's ever owned. He actually let me convince it him it was worth it in order to properly enjoy my dragging him around Ireland on a packed itinerary. I found two pairs I liked (of course) but then realized neither would work with the pants I bought to take, so I'm stilling hunting.

At 7:30pm we arrived home exhausted but satisfied. A little Safeway Chinese and The Tourist wrapped up our productive and fun day. Thanks Jessica, for keeping us company and letting  us drag you around all day!

  1. Love the sister photo!!!

I'm glad Doug's flat feet will feel fully fabulous as you fly away on your fun trip :)

You made me LOL though about how stupid you were to know what you should wear on your feet - I can see Doug's face now - hahaha!

  2. Well aren't you feeling lyrical! :)

Actually, it was Jessica and I that practically barfed up our spleens the minute we were out the door. We were SO mad! Doug was more like, "Oh good, I thought I was just being overly sensitive."

Can't wait to see you in 5 weeks! We're still having lunch, right? Our layover is for 2 hrs., that should give us time, shouldn't it?
